Natural Stone
Beauty that's hard to beat.
It's hard to top the beauty nature creates.
That's why natural stones are commonly on the "must-have" list for new homes
and remodels. We carry a variety of natural stone materials:
Granite is one of the most durable
natural stones. It is chip and scratch resistant and, when sealed
properly, resistant to stains as well. You can cut and place hot pots
and pans directly on granite. Uses of granite: Due to its
square edge and small bevel, granite tiles make a great countertop at a
fraction of the cost of a solid slab top. Tiles are most often butted
together, with only a small amount of epoxy used in the bevel. Due to
its durability, granite may also be used on the floor. However, it is
relatively slick as compared to most other flooring and not recommended for
areas that may become wet.
Marble is more smooth and cool to the
touch and makes a great choice for rolling dough and making pastries.
However, it is a softer material and is more likely to scratch than granite.
Marble also must be sealed more often to maintain its stain resistance.
Uses of marble: Marble is usually used in a particular area of
a countertop. It also makes a great backsplash around a fireplace due
to the unique coloring found.
Travertine provides a very rugged
option and requires little maintenance. Travertine will give your
space a comfortable and natural that is unique and will provide a timeless
beauty. Uses of travertine: Travertine can be used almost
anywhere including countertops, flooring and backsplashes. Tumbled
stone, a similar option, is usually used as a backsplash due to its
rougher texture.
Limestone offers a unique weathered
look but is extremely porous and will stain more easily than the above
materials. Uses of limestone: Can be used as a
countertop, but spills must be attended to immediately. Makes a better
backsplash, especially out of the kitchen.
Slate is a durable, hard and fireproof
choose that makes a statement. It has a low absorption rate, which
makes it naturally stain resistant. Uses of slate: Often
found on outdoor porches, slate is making its way inside. It is
sometimes used as a countertop, however due its less-than-smooth can
sometimes be a turn off. Slate makes an interesting backsplash for
those who want something a little different.
Applicable to all natural stones:
All natural stones can be very random in shade and veining from tile to tile
and from the sample used to pick it from. Natural stones requires a
sealer about once a year, which is easily applied with an aerosol spray and
clean rag.
Note on "Solid Slab" Countertops:
Effective January 23, 2008 we will no longer sell solid-slab materials.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers.
Individual natural stone tiles will continue to be available for
countertops.
