Carpet
Where warmth and comfort are a priority in decorating.

Carpet is still the flooring of choice for many American homeowners where warmth and comfort are a priority in their decorating. Choosing the right color and style with confidence is easier if you have a basic understanding of today's carpet fashions and how they apply to your personal tastes and lifestyle. Mohawk offers the finest collections of carpet brands to meet a family's needs, preferences and decorating budget.

  • Color
Color is first on our minds when choosing a floor. Consider how you want the carpet to coordinate. Do you want the carpet to be the focal point or blend with your interior?
  • Foot Traffic
High Traffic areas, such as hallways and entryways require durable carpets made of resilient fibers engineered to resist wear abrasion, crushing and matting. Other areas, such as bedrooms and family rooms may have high traffic areas as well. Take a moment to inspect the carpet you are replacing to identify high traffic areas in your home.
  • Performance
The performance and quality of a carpet is directly related to the amount and quality of fiber that goes into the pile. The better the fiber and the denser it is packed, the better the carpet will perform. Thin, less dense carpet will lose its surface appearance faster. It is best to buy the highest quality carpet and cushion that you can afford.
  • Carpet Fibers
The most common fibers used in carpet today are nylon, olefin, polyester and natural fibers such as wool or sisal. The inherent characteristics found in each of these fibers helps determine their use and color offering. Premium, nylon soft fibers are extremely popular and offer superior soil-hiding characteristics, comfort, durability and brilliant color palettes.  A new fiber growing in popularity is SmartStrand.

  • Soil and Stain ResistanceChip Wade from HGTV's Designed to Sell talks about SmartStrand.
With soil-resistant treated carpets you no longer have to be afraid of choosing a lighter, more vibrant color to enhance your decor. Most residential carpets offer some type of stain resistance. Those who enjoy entertaining or who have children and pets should consider carpets with high levels of stain resistance.
  • Carpet Construction
Carpet construction varies from loops, cut piles to patterns which produce different degrees of texture, appearance and durability; each designed to meet diverse lifestyles of today's families.

A little help to get you started

What you may want to know before you visit us.

We are a Mohawk ColorCenter and Shaw Floor Studio.  We carry a select choice of larger, full samples as well as a more diverse collection of smaller samples for you to choose from.  You are free to borrow any samples to see how the styles and colors work in your home.

Our displays are broken down into different categories, so it's easy to find what you're looking for.  If you would like your carpet fiber to be polyester, known for it's soft touch and cleanability, check out Shaw's "ClearTouch" or Mohawk's "Rooms for Living" collections.  In "Rooms for Living," there are three different collections to choose from, depending on your budget-- EverStrand, SmartStrand, and SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona fiber (click the links to find out more).  Both ClearTouch and Rooms for Living offer a variety of styles and hundreds of colors.

If you'd rather your carpet be made with Nylon fiber, tried and true for durability with available Stainmaster protection, see Mohawk's other collections.  There is "Texture Studio," featuring the traditional textures (also called plush or saxony) in solid colors and often available in wider widths.  If something more modern is your style, see "Fashion Studio" or "Natural Classics" for cut-plies (also called but-berber, california berber or short shag).  If you'd like a loop, see "Berber Classics" for traditional loop berbers as well as a few exciting new styles you may have never seen before.  There are also many Nylons available in the Shaw Floor Studio.

Lastly, if you are searching for something perfect for a home office, recreation room, business, school or church there are many choices available in our Work & Leisure and commercial section featuring all styles, yarns and price points.
